I always thought that you just couldn’t make a smoothie without a banana. But there’s a lot of sugar in a banana and I’ve been trying to avoid sugar lately.
So, here’s a smoothie that’s smarter than most because it’s delicious, healthy and contains less sugar. It starts with a frozen mixed fruit base that’s very high in antioxidants.
This fruit blend has strawberries, blueberries, pitted dark sweet cherries, raspberries and pomegranate pieces. This is my favorite berry/fruit combo.
Then I added crushed walnuts and pecans, flaxseeds, lemon juice and chia seeds. Top the container with unsweetened vanilla flavored almond milk and blend until smooth and creamy.
What a girl! Beautiful and smart (the smoothie, that is). And tomorrow I think I’ll drop a few spinach leaves into the blender for added nutrition.
Oh! And don’t forget to soak the chia seeds in the almond milk for about 20 minutes first. Otherwise, they might be crunchy. Some health experts also believe that you should soak the spinach first too to reduce the oxalates.
Oxalates sometimes cause kidney stones. Lemon juice and calcium both help to reduce this concern. The citric acid in lemon juice helps your kidneys to eliminate the oxalates and calcium binds with the oxalates to reduce its effect.
So since this smoothie has both lemon juice and almond milk fortified with calcium, this raises the intelligence of this girl even more. Smart smoothie!
